Fauna of Madagascar
Madagascar is a very large island. It is between Africa and the Indianan Ocean. There are lots of animals on this island. There some animals that live only on this island. (A) Lemurs: There are only 25 species of lemurs on Madagascar and they are endangered. They look like monkeys. Lemur has got large round eyes, a long tail and soft fur. They like wild bananas and other forest fruits. (B) Gorillas: Gorilla live near volcanoes. They live in small groups. They are big and heavy. They cannot climb trees. They eat fruits, leaves and berries. They look very dangerous. But they are very friendly. (C) The forest elephants: They are much smaller than the African elephant. But this “small” elephant can be up to 250 cm tall. It is thinner, short and a yellow. (D) Chimpanzees: Most chimpanzees can open nuts with stones and branches. Groups of about twenty chimpanzees travel together looking for some fruits and leaves to eat. At night they rest on branches of the tall trees.
